#RT15 Wrap-up Post

Posted 19 May, 2015 by Linda @ (un)Conventional Bookworms in Wrap-up Posts / 34 Comments

As most of you know, last week, I was away in Dallas for my first ever book convention, RT15, and I had so much fun! I met many authors I enjoy, and some bloggers I truly love. I feel like I have convention hangover now, both because it was a pretty intense week, and because of the jetlag… I arrived home last night, and had to work this morning – but it’s all good 🙂

I finally got to meet some of my fellow bloggers, and that was possibly what I loved the most about RT! Brandee @ Bookworm Brandee and I shared a room with her friend Denise, we chatted and laughed all the time. I also got to meet both Ali and Debbie from Black Heart Reviews, Melanie and Loupe from Hot Listens, Felicia from The Geeky Blogger and Berls from Fantasy is More Fun. I’m really sad I didn’t take more blogger photos – I don’t know what is wrong with me that I didn’t think to take more sucky selfies than I did!

All of the authors I had a chance to have a chat with were so lovely, and I felt like I was in heaven each time one of them took the time to talk and line up for my sucky selfies! I told my family that this conference was like walking around at a music festival, having the chance to actually talk to the bands and the singers at every turn. Of course, a lot of meetings happened by chance, either in the restaurant or at the bar, but several took place in various panels as well. Needless to say, I’m still coming down from my author-high 😉

I received a lot of books, too, both some that I won in different panels, and at the big Avon party. I loved that it was possible to actually receive e-books at the Avon party, all the cards you can see at the left where I have all my books are e-books. So it seems as if I won’t really need to buy any books for a long while. But we all know that’s not going to happen.

    • LOL Jennifer! I think it’s going to take me a while to read all of these. And I’m still sad you didn’t make it this year.
When I told my husband it’ll be in Vegas next year, he told me to book a trip for two 😀

  1. Awwww you got to meet Brandee and Ali!! 😀 I love bookish conventions and I think THE best part is getting to meet blogger friends irl and chatting books with them ♥ And meeting authors is always a treat too! You got some fabulous loot there^^, I hope you enjoy ALL your goodies and thanks for sharing your experience! xx

    • We totally had a blast, Michelle. It was great to be able to hang out for several days, and get to know each other even better. And I’m sure we’ll get to meet one day, too.
Are you ready for BEA? That should be a fun week, too 😉

  2. Ah man, sounds like you have such a fun time! Jealous!! 🙂 I am so hoping to go to BEA next year and it will be my first time ever going to a conference type thing..saving my monies. 🙂 RT sounds like it was way fun! I see all sorts of pics on instagram from authors and bloggers. 🙂

    • I certainly hope so, too, Melanie! It was great getting to know you in real life as well. And I’m so sad I didn’t take any selfies of the two of us together 🙁
I went through my books as soon as I opened my suitcases, I love that it’s possible to scan the bar-code on books with the Goodreads app – easy way to add them all to my shelves 🙂

  3. Wow it looked like you had an amazing time! And that’s so awesome you got to meet all those bloggers and authors. I am jealous, I would love to meet you and all those other bloggers in real life. And that’s so exciting you got a picture with rachel Vincent, she’s one of my favourite authors! I can imagine it would be weird to get home and back to work after such an intense week.

    • Yes, it was really a great experience, Lola. And you and I should definitely be able to meet one day! We don’t live that far away from each other, just a short flight with EasyJet and voilà 🙂
      Rachel Vincent was so sweet!

  4. I can’t believe you did this post on such little sleep! 😉 Yes, it certainly was an incredible time getting to meet YOU and the other bloggers and authors, etc. I haven’t laughed so much in…well, I don’t know. I liked reliving the week through your pictures. It was just so much fun to get to fangirl with you in person, Lexxie. And hopefully we’ll see each other again sooner than later! <3 **BIG HUGS**

  5. Wow! You were beaming! I’m so glad you had a wonderful time. . .more like magical! You scored a lot of goodies too! Gah! I’m just so elated for you Lexxie, I can’t wait to attend a bookcon some day, it will have to be with a few friends though. Thank you so much for sharing these moments with us! I had been waiting for this post! 😛

    • Yes, the best time, Claudia! I hope you’ll be able to attend a bookcon, too, it was truly a wonderful experience. And I did go with friends – even if I hadn’t actually met them in RL before 😉
I’m glad you enjoyed all my pics.

  6. Jennifer @ Feminist Fairy Tale Reviews

It looks like you had a fabulous time! I plan on getting to RT someday especially since everyone talks about how nice it is. I’m super jealous of all those books, but it is the best kind of jealous.

    • RT was an amazing convention, Jennifer. One of the things I really enjoyed was that most people stayed right there at the same hotel, so even going to the restaurant or the bar, we would bump into people 😀
I can understand the envy, Jennifer, I’ve felt that same thing in the past when seeing other people’s hauls at book-cons. I can’t wait to delve into all these stories, and I will have a giveaway for some e-books very soon, as I somehow ended up with a couple of doubles, and my blogoversary is in the beginning of June.

  7. Oh wow! Look at all of those books. I’ve been to one book blogging thing and wasn’t expecting the extra 10 or so books I had to fly home with!!!

Looks like you had a good time!
