Audio Review ~ Stuck Up Suit ~ Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward

Audio Review ~ Stuck Up Suit ~ Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward

Stuck Up Suit was the perfect blend of sexy, snarky, and soul-stirring. And that’s something I’ve come to expect from Keeland and Ward. That it was narrated by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell made it all the better. 🙂 Soraya was a character I was immediately drawn to. I admired her pluck, especially when it came to MBP – Mr. Big Prick – as she and her friends referred to Graham. She showed the world this girl who wasn’t afraid to be bold in her style or manners. The more I got to know her, the more I identified with her. Being estranged from my own father, I had more insight into her protective mechanisms, her figurative armor, and her […]

Audio Review ~ Darkness Dawns ~ Dianne Duvall

Audio Review ~ Darkness Dawns ~ Dianne Duvall

Darkness Dawns served as my introduction to Dianne Duvall and I’m kicking myself for not having listened to it sooner! It was chock full of excitement, romance, action, and a new-to-me spin on vampires and immortals. The fact it was narrated by Kirsten Potter was gravy! Highlights: MCs Darkness Dawns revolved around Sarah and Roland and I adored them both! Sarah might be pint-sized but she’s tough – mentally and physically. She’s not one to back down from a challenge – or a rescue – when necessary. That worked to Roland’s advantage since she comes to his aid. Roland is an Immortal Guardian and is described often as being anti-social. He’s prickly and doesn’t interact with anyone if he […]

Audioreview: Hounded – Kevin Hearne

Audioreview: Hounded – Kevin Hearne

Hounded was a fantastic story, with really well done mythology, character development, action, and plot! Story: I did a buddy listen of Hounded with Carole @ Carole’s Random Life. We both agreed that Oberon was our favorite character. The overall story really appealed to me, because it had a druid main character, Atticus. And, as I said to Carole at one point, it was refreshing to have a male protagonist in adult Urban Fantasy. I know there are others, but it’s been a while since I’ve read or listened to one. Hounded starts off with showing the readers what this universe is like, there are gods – from all pantheons – fae, vampires, shifters, witches, and of course out druid. […]

Series Review: The Illuminae Files – Amie Kaufmann and Jay Kristoff

Series Review: The Illuminae Files – Amie Kaufmann and Jay Kristoff

Beware readers! I am reviewing all three books in one go. There may be spoilers from books 1 and 2 in the review of book 3.  When Illuminae was first released, it was one of those immense buzz-books from the get-go. Remember? I was excited about it, too, and I bought the book as soon as was possible. Then, I left it on my shelf. Until I went to BEA in 2016, where I got an advanced copy of Gemina… which I also put on my shelf once I returned home. See a pattern here? The books appealed to me, but I just kind of didn’t get to them. Until one of my favorite authors told me that her co-author […]

Audioreview: The Pact – Karina Halle

Audioreview: The Pact – Karina Halle

The Pact is the first in Halle’s McGregor series – which works completely as stand-alone novels! – but my second. And oh my, how I loved Linden and Stephanie! I buddy-listened to The Pact with my dear blogger-wife Brandee @ Bookworm Brandee. So I’m sharing some stuff we chatted about after we were both finished. There might be some slight spoilers, so beware! Me: Both Kayla and James really, really piss me off!!! I’m almost at the end of The Pact… Brandee: Me too! I almost couldn’t stand James.

How can Steph be happy for James?? I would kick him in the nuts if I were her! I completely agree. He was a total schmuck. So self-centered. I’d kick him […]

Audioreview: It Ends With Us – Colleen Hoover

Audioreview: It Ends With Us – Colleen Hoover

It Ends With Us is even more emotional in audio than when I read it myself. Awesome story that needed to be told! I’m not sure how Olivia Song managed to do this, but she made me fall even deeper in love with Lily with her excellent narration of It Ends With Us. This past weekend, my oldest daughter and I drove to the South of France for a book fest, and she hadn’t read this one yet. And CoHo was one of the authors at the fest, so we decided to listen to it on the road. Everything was OK on the way there, but I missed my cue on the way back on Sunday, and it took us […]

Audio Review: FORD Taut / Slack – J.A. Huss

Audio Review: FORD Taut / Slack – J.A. Huss

Rutherford Aston is an ass, a creep, a freak… And he knows it! It’s just that he might not be as bad as he thinks when it comes down to it. I had forgotten what an ass Ford could be! Fucking Ford. He’s still my favorite guy in this series, though, and the narration made it even more so. The emotions were stronger, and hearing Duran’s voice being Ford was awesome! The pacing was well done, and I have to say I loved getting to know more about Ford, and meeting Sasha, Ashleigh and Kate was something I appreciated just as much the second time around. Seeing the lengths he would go to for his friends, while still thinking he […]

Audio Review: Tragic – J.A. Huss

Audio Review: Tragic – J.A. Huss

Tragic is one of my favorite Huss stories, and it was a treat to listen to the audio – the narrators brought the characters to life perfectly! My Tragic audioreview: At the beginning of listening to Tragic, I had a little trouble with the male narrator, especially because his French accent didn’t sound French at all, but also because he made a very squeaky voice when he was sharing something Rook said, but from Ronin’s point of view. The female narrator nailed it, though, and most of the chapters were from Rook’s perspective, so I was completely gone in the story very quickly. I read the whole Rook and Ronin series a while ago, and listening to Tragic brought some […]

#Audio #Bookreview: Unholy Magic – Stacia Kane

#Audio #Bookreview: Unholy Magic – Stacia Kane

Unholy Magic is even more gripping, gritty and edgy when it’s narrated by Bahni Turpin! Chess and all her emotions are portrayed so well, as are Terrible and the other characters, too. My Unholy Magic audioreview: Unholy Magic was an amazing story for me to read several years ago, and listening to it made it more. More emotions. More connection with the characters. More in-depth story-telling. I was completely engrossed from start to finish. Bahni Turpin is so good at doing the different voices, accents… it’s easy to know who is talking with her narration. I was also even more amazed with Chess while listening to Unholy Magic. She is so strong and capable, but at the same time, so […]

Audioreview: Ugly Love – Colleen Hoover

Audioreview: Ugly Love – Colleen Hoover

Listening to Ugly Love made the story somehow feel closer to me, the characters were literally telling me their story. My Ugly Love audioreview: The narration was so good, I really felt like I was listening to Miles and Tate throughout Ugly Love, and that was both very good, and sometimes a little strange. When I read my kindle version of Ugly Love, I cried so much, and so ugly in many places. And I actually enjoyed the story more when I read it myself, even if I really did enjoy listening to the audio version as well. For one, listening to Miles go on and on about Rachel, from the very first time they met made him seem a […]
