Review: Material Girls – Elaine Dimopoulus

Review: Material Girls – Elaine Dimopoulus

Material Girls definitely has a very interesting concept, in this universe, kids as young as 13 are ‘tapped’ to become fashionistas instead of going to school, they are trend-setters, making sure the people spend their money so that the rich can always become richer. My Material Girls review: Chilling is definitely a word that comes easily to mind when envisioning the kind of society that is reality in Material Girls! Both Ivy and Marla thought they were living the dream, Ivy as a very popular singer, and Marla as a judge in the superior court at one of the big five fashion houses. Setting trends, and making others obsolete at the same time was a big part of their daily […]

Review: Portraits of Celina – Sue Whiting

Review: Portraits of Celina – Sue Whiting

Portraits of Celina is a fantastic ghost story, eerily creepy, and filled with angst! My Portraits of Celina review: There are many very different things going on in Portraits of Celina. Bailey, her sister and their mom moved across the country after Bailey’s dad died in an accident. As soon as they arrive, strange things start to happen. Both because Bailey has some very vivid dreams that seem extremely realistic, and because she finds Celina’s trunk of clothes – from that last summer before she disappeared. Written in past and present tense, first person point of view from Bailey’s perspective, Portraits of Celina manages to get right into the story from the start. Moving to a new place in January […]

Review: Cinder – Marissa Meyer

Review: Cinder – Marissa Meyer

Cinder was up for a slow start, but after a while, things were happening more quickly, and while I was able to guess pretty early on who exactly Cinder was, I was still amazed at the way the story unfolded. My Cinder review: Cinder is part cyborg, and her adoptive mother treats her as a servant, so much so that all the money Cinder earns is deposited into Adri’s account rather than Cinder’s. As a gifted mechanic, with a stall at the market, she meets Crown Prince Kai when he needs help to repair his android. Meeting Kai is like a dream to her, but she knows he would be disgusted if he knew she was a cyborg, so rather […]

Review: The Fallen Star – Jessica Sorensen

Review: The Fallen Star – Jessica Sorensen

Very, very slow-moving story, the characters are not very well developed, and the writing is full of repetitions. The Fallen Star could have told the same story exactly in only 150 pages, and then be the introduction to the series, rather than a full-length novel where nothing much happened in the first 70-75%. Not sure I’ll continue with this one. My The Fallen Star review: The premise for The Fallen Star is so good, unfortunately, I didn’t think the story delivered. Gemma was an annoying heroine, even when taking into account the fact that she has lived most of her life without having any feelings at all. Her swooning over Alex made me roll my eyes more than once, and […]

Review: The Boys of Summer – C.J. Duggan

Review: The Boys of Summer – C.J. Duggan

The Boys of Summer is the perfect summer romance: first love, coming of age, growing up, it was such an uplifting and sweet story that made me long for the summers I spent on a small island when I was a teen. My Boys of Summer review: First of all, a big thank you to Brandee @ Bookworm Brandee, because she has talked about this series for a long time, and a while ago, I won the books in a giveaway on her blog. I’m so glad I finally read it! Tess is a really great character to follow, the story Boys of Sumer is written in first person point of view, and I really loved to get to know […]

Review: Soulprint – Megan Miranda

Review: Soulprint – Megan Miranda

Soulprint is a captivating tale, in which rebirth has been proven, and people can be judged by the deeds done in their past lives. Chilling, well done and filled with secrets, I loved it! My Soulprint review: Alina was an intriguing character to follow, especially at the very start when she was held captive by the government – on an island and with guards that were changed every few weeks to make sure nobody got close enough to her to want to make her escape. The whole premise of souls being reborn really appealed to me, and the mystery surrounding that for almost everyone but Alina was well done, too. Alina has been monitored since she was born, though, because […]

DNF Review: Hex Hall – Rachel Hawkins

DNF Review: Hex Hall – Rachel Hawkins

I had quite high hopes for Hex Hall before I started it. Several reviewers whom I am almost always agreeing with loved it, and it’s a genre I love, too. Alas, Hex Hall and I weren’t meant to be. My Hex Hall review: I almost stopped reading Hex Hall at 37% of my kindle edition. I found the story to be very slow, I wasn’t all that interested in Sophie, and I also thought a lot of things didn’t make much sense – mostly because they were glossed over, and even Sophie had no idea about how to navigate her world. Being a witch raised by a human for sixteen years can’t have made anything easy for Sophie, but I […]

Review: Soul Walker – Robyn Jones

Review: Soul Walker – Robyn Jones

Soul Walker is so beautifully written, with a very different main character, and vampires that are nothing like the ones I’ve met before. My Soul Walker review: I’m wondering why I haven’t read Soul Walker before now, even if I do know why. I have been blog-friends with Robyn for a while, and I love her. So, even if I had her books, I was afraid to read them, and not enjoy them. I don’t know why I ever thought I might not enjoy Robyn’s stories, because even her blog-posts include her beautiful way with words, and Soul Walker is a true work of art! It’s easy to see that Robyn used to paint a lot, because she has used […]

Blogtour Review: The Body Electric – Beth Revis

Blogtour Review: The Body Electric – Beth Revis

Welcome to my stop on The Body Electric tour hosted by Xpresso Booktours. I have my review and some favorite quotes to share, and there’s also a tour-wide giveaway from today until January 26th. My The Body Electric review: Ella is a young girl who has lost so much already, her dad died in an explosion, and her mom is terminally ill. Every night, Ella has very strange dreams, in which she finds herself with her father, and more often than not, he tells her something important, up until the point when Ella realizes that her dream is in fact not real. The Body Electric starts out really strong, I am drawn into Ella’s dreams and reality, and I want […]

Review: When – Victoria Laurie

Review: When – Victoria Laurie

When is the story about a girl who can see when people will die – the exact date of their death – but she doesn’t know what to do with the information, and suddenly she’s the main suspect in a murder investigation. My When review: The mystery with the serial killer is well done in When, and it was impossible for me to figure out who the killer was, and how it tied in with the fact that Maddie could see when people would die. Those dates, however, weren’t ever really explained, and Maddie didn’t figure out why she could see these dates, or what she was supposed to do about it. The writing is good, even if the voice […]
