Review ~ This Same Earth ~ Elizabeth Hunter

Review ~ This Same Earth ~ Elizabeth Hunter

I was thrilled to be able to continue this series as a buddy read with my COYER friend, Lenore! It makes for more exciting reading when you can actively discuss the book while you’re reading it. This Same Earth picks up 5 years after the end of the first book. B is now a research librarian living in California and dating. Gio is never far from her thoughts, much to her dismay since he left her, but life is good. Then one day while working, B gets a whiff of a familiar scent and she’s once again being drawn into a world she thought she’d left behind…and back to Gio. Even though most of it’s been done off-page, I could […]

Review: The Iron Raven – Julie Kagawa

Review: The Iron Raven – Julie Kagawa

The Iron Raven features Puck as the main character, and I feel like I have waited for his book since forever! What a pleasure to be back in Kagawa’s fairylands once more. And even more so to learn much more about Puck, and how he was often somewhat an outsider, but one who wanted to fit in – at least sometimes. There is trouble in Faerie, and this trouble is so big it might just be too much for Puck, the Iron Fey, and a new possible ally to fight the good fight. The Iron Raven shows a different side of Faerie, now that there is a specific place where the Forgotten have taken up residence. Ethan as their champion […]

Review: Archangel’s Sun – Nalini Singh

Review: Archangel’s Sun – Nalini Singh

In Archangel’s Sun, an Archangel who is known for being strong, and an artist who is thought to be weak have to fight the reborn together to save the world. Archangel’s Sun in which Singh so totally did it again! I have loved her Guild Hunter series from the start, and even now, after all this time, it keeps getting better with each book! I mean, Brandee, my co-blogger (or blogger-wife) and I face-timed tonight, when I was at around 60% through the novel, and I kept telling her that Titus and Shari were screaming at me to hang up with her and keep up with their story 😉 Shari is the Hummingbird – Illium’s illustrious, artistic, but apparently broken […]

OctobeRec Fest Review #3 ~ The Immortal Coil ~ J. Armand

OctobeRec Fest Review #3 ~ The Immortal Coil ~ J. Armand

I can’t believe October flew by so quickly and I only got 4 books read! But OctobeRec Fest was successful in my opinion. I read some good books and got 4 books off my shelf. 😉 Be on the lookout for a blogger wife chat review soon of Carmilla – the 4th book I checked off my list. I didn’t quite finish The Immortal Coil before October ended but I was close. 😉 Kristen @ Metaphors & Moonlight turned me on to The Immortal Coil AND I happened to win a signed copy in a giveaway she held. Yay! Oh, and the beer pairing? Four Noses Pump Action Pumpkin Ale. Yum! For a large portion of the book, I was […]

OctobeRec Fest Review #1 ~ Betwixt ~ Darynda Jones

OctobeRec Fest Review #1 ~ Betwixt ~ Darynda Jones

Here’s my first review for OctobeRec Fest. Thanks to Robyn for the recommendation and gift of a great book! 😉 And the perfect beer pairing? Samuel Adams’ Jack-O! Omigosh do I love this beer! Pumpkin with the perfect amount of pumpkin spice. If you like pumpkin AND beer, give this one a try. And pick up Betwixt too! 🙂 Betwixt is an excellent introduction to DJones’ Betwixt & Between series. I was immediately drawn into the story as the characters, especially Defiance (is there a better name for a witch?!?), are so engaging. Then there’s the setting – an old home in Salem, Massachusetts. It all adds up to a witchy good time! Highlights: Characters Dephne (Defiance) is a character […]

Audio Review ~ The Scribe ~ Elizabeth Hunter

Audio Review ~ The Scribe ~ Elizabeth Hunter

How much did I love The Scribe? Let me count the ways. LOL I’ve been intending to read EHunter since 2013 when I challenged myself to read the attending authors of TFEIC. (that’s The First Ever Indie Conference) Now, I’m mentally smacking myself for having waited so long. The Scribe was so compelling and the fact Zachary Webber narrated it only made the story that much richer. Ava is such an interesting character. When we meet her she’s in a session with a psychiatrist because she’s looking for answers to why she has always felt different. The psychiatrist sends her to Istanbul where he believes there is someone who can help her. Once there, something is set into motion that […]

#OctobeRec Fest Review #4 ~ Lucifer’s Daughter ~ Eve Langlais

#OctobeRec Fest Review #4 ~ Lucifer’s Daughter ~ Eve Langlais

Welcome to OctobeRec Fest. I started this as a nod to Oktoberfest (books & beer…heaven, am I right?!?) so I’ll spending the month of October reading a few of the many, many books I’ve procured thanks to you, my blogging friends. Title: Lucifer’s Daughter Author: Eve Langlais Narrator: Rebecca Estrella Recommended by: Melanie @Hot Listens Lucifer’s Daughter wasn’t my first Eve Langlais read but I’d met Muriel in another book and really wanted her story. Melanie really liked ELanglais and recommended this series so I gave it a go in audio. I adored Muriel’s story and REstrella’s narration for the most part. Highlights: Characters Muriel is quite entertaining. She’s strong, independent, smart, honest, a virgin… hehe Yeah, her dad is not […]

ARC Review: Sapphire Flames – Ilona Andrews

ARC Review: Sapphire Flames – Ilona Andrews

Sapphire Flames brings all the magic, the fights, the intrigue, the romance, and the tension I have gotten used to with the Hidden Legacy series! While I would have loved more Nevada and Rogan, I have to say Sapphire Flames still blew me away. Catalina is definitely a worthy heroine, and I loved how she wanted to take care of things herself. Just so that Nevada and Rogan could have a little alone time. The way the Houses tried to move in on her, and take her out made for a lot of action. In Sapphire Flames, I loved how Alessandro tried to find more with Catalina. She resisted all his advances, though, because she knew that people found themselves […]

Audio Review ~ Night Reigns ~ Dianne Duvall

Audio Review ~ Night Reigns ~ Dianne Duvall

Night Reigns was equally as gripping and action-packed as its predecessor. Not only did I get Marcus’ and Ami’s story, but Duvall also delivered a few more pieces to the overall puzzle. I’m entranced with all the characters and the overall story! Highlights: Characters Marcus has believed for some time now that he doesn’t have much to live for. He lost his first love – twice – and he simply lives to fulfill his duties as an Immortal Guardian but does so recklessly. Then Seth assigns Ami as his Second and Marcus comes to realize he might have something to live for after all. We’d gotten a time glimpse of Ami in book 1 and I was more than a […]

New Release Review ~ When the Gods Forget ~ Kennedy Daly

New Release Review ~ When the Gods Forget ~ Kennedy Daly

In When the Gods Forget, my questions from the previous book weren’t really answered. In fact, I came away with even more questions. However, the story was just as action-packed and emotional as its predecessor. Highlights: Characters Teagan is brave, reckless, tenacious, strong, and loyal. I adored her even more in When the Gods Forget because she’s a survivor. She’s endured so much and yet she never gives up. She needed to do a bit of soul searching in this installment and even though she made a few rash decisions – which I can forgive due to her age – I was proud of her for being true to herself and doing the right thing. As for Damian, well he […]
