Review ~ Steal You Away ~ Victoria Ashley

Review ~ Steal You Away ~ Victoria Ashley

Naomi, at Naomi’s Reading Palace, first put Victoria Ashley on my radar. After seeing some of VAshley’s posts on Instagram about Steal You Away, I took the plunge via KU. Although there were a few issues, overall I enjoyed my first VAshley read and I’ll definitely check out more. What Worked: Plot The main plot of the story really worked for me. Colson and Kennedy grew up together, his sister being Kennedy’s best friend. They hung out a lot and Colson wanted more but he was younger than Kennedy. Unfortunately for Colson, when he told his older brother he liked Kennedy, Dax went after her instead. Of course, Kennedy never knew of Colson’s interest but they shared a close friendship […]

Review ~ Out of Love ~ Jewel E Ann

Review ~ Out of Love ~ Jewel E Ann

I didn’t realize Out of Love was a spinoff from JEAnn’s Jack & Jill series until it was too late. But even though I gave myself a spoiler for that series, it didn’t ruin this standalone and I’m determined it won’t ruin the series for me either. I’ve been wanting to read JEAnn since 2018, I think, when a friend and fellow blogger recommended her. I’m sorry to have put her off but oh, so happy I finally gave her a go. I’ve already lined up the Jack & Jill series so I can catch up. 😉 Emmy is a complete spitfire and I adored that about her. Curious beyond safety, smart, strong-willed — she did often get herself into […]

Review ~ A Deal with the Devil ~ Elizabeth O’Roark

Review ~ A Deal with the Devil ~ Elizabeth O’Roark

I think I may have found a new favorite author. I picked up A Deal with the Devil after seeing Jana Aston recommend it as the “best book of 2021.” It’s absolutely going on my list of best reads in 2022. The last thing Tali wants to do is a 6-week gig working for Hayes Flynn, temporarily stepping into her friend’s position. Hayes has a certain reputation and Tali’s had enough of womanizing men, especially after being betrayed by the one she thought she’d marry. But she needs the money in the worst way so she’ll take the job and heed her friend’s advice…”don’t sleep with him.” Shouldn’t be difficult to make it the 6 weeks. But the more time […]

Review ~ This Same Earth ~ Elizabeth Hunter

Review ~ This Same Earth ~ Elizabeth Hunter

I was thrilled to be able to continue this series as a buddy read with my COYER friend, Lenore! It makes for more exciting reading when you can actively discuss the book while you’re reading it. This Same Earth picks up 5 years after the end of the first book. B is now a research librarian living in California and dating. Gio is never far from her thoughts, much to her dismay since he left her, but life is good. Then one day while working, B gets a whiff of a familiar scent and she’s once again being drawn into a world she thought she’d left behind…and back to Gio. Even though most of it’s been done off-page, I could […]

Buddy Read Chat Review ~ Western Waves ~ Brittainy Cherry

Buddy Read Chat Review ~ Western Waves ~ Brittainy Cherry

I had the pleasure of another buddy read with my COYER friend, Nadene. This time we read Western Waves by Brittainy Cherry. You can check out this review and others at Nadene’s blog, Totally Addicted to Reading. 🙂 Let’s get to our chat!   Despite some consistency issues, I think we both enjoyed Western Waves. The inconsistencies did pull me out of the story at times. It felt rushed. But the bones of the story were good. This was actually the first book I’ve read from this series but I plan to go back and read its predecessors since you recommend them. 😉 Your overall opinion? Yes! You need to read the previous books. You won’t regret it. They were […]

Buddy Read Chat Review ~ The Good Lie ~ A.R. Torre

Buddy Read Chat Review ~ The Good Lie ~ A.R. Torre

One element of COYER that I’m enjoying is the facilitation of buddy reading. It enables me to get to know my online friends better as well as helping me read genres I don’t read or read enough. This month, I buddy read The Good Lie by A.R. Torre with my COYER friend, Nadene. You can check out her blog, and this review, here. I’m so happy we buddy read this, Nadene! I love suspense and don’t read near enough of it. The Good Lie had me on the edge of my seat, not wanting to put it down. I’ll definitely read more from AR Torre. Yes! Me too. I read a book written by the author before (Every Last […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review: Tempt the Boss – Natasha Madison

Blogger Wife Chat Review: Tempt the Boss – Natasha Madison

Wifey, Tempt the Boss was just what I needed. Thank you so much for suggesting it for one of our first buddy-reads of 2022! I laughed so hard at the pranks Lauren and Austin played on each other. What did you think of the humor in this one? Thanks for agreeing to buddy read this one, wifey. And seeing as I was feeling guilty for all the laughing I was doing while reading this on an early morning flight, I suppose you can say I seriously appreciated the humor. 😉 Oh my, what these two could think up! Another thing I loved in Tempt the Boss was the relationship between Lauren and her sister, Kaleigh, and the friendship between Austin […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review: Concrete Rose – Angie Thomas

Blogger Wife Chat Review: Concrete Rose – Angie Thomas

Oh my gosh, Brandee. I don’t know about you, but I absolutely adored Concrete Rose. I love that Thomas used AAVE both for the inner thoughts and for the dialogues, because it made the whole story stand out to me as very authentic and realistic. What did you think of that choice? I can’t imagine anything more perfect than AThomas giving us Concrete Rose. There was more story left after The Hate U Give – it just happened to be the story that came before. And I adored it as well. The fact that AThomas used AAVE for both the inner dialog as well as for the dialogues gave Mav’s story the richness it deserved. Very authentic and genuine. Another […]

Review: Love In Secrets – Scarlett Cole

Review: Love In Secrets – Scarlett Cole

Love In Secrets is a perfect friends-to-lovers story, with a ton of chemistry, a whole lot of heat, and a little heart-ache. Love In Secrets is one of those stories where I loved everything! I loved the characters and their back stories. I loved the setting. I loved the romantic elements between Cassie and Jake. And most of all, I loved that Cassie was so true to herself. From start to finish. Cassie had to come back home urgently after her dad was in an accident, and her old friend Jake came to pick her up at the airport. He comforted her and let her stay at his place. What neither of them expected were the sparks. And the chemistry […]

Review: The Girl With Stars in Her Eyes – Xio Axelrod

Review: The Girl With Stars in Her Eyes – Xio Axelrod

The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes is an amazing story, following Toni B from when she was only twelve years old. I don’t even know where to start with The Girl With Stars in Her Eyes! Axelrod did amazing with this novel, that’s for sure! The characters were very realistic, and my feeling were involved from the beginning. Toni knew the backside of fame, and she wanted nothing to do with it. Toni’s hopes and dreams were crushed more than once. First when her mom sent her away to look for fame on her own. Then, when her dad, Mo, didn’t really seem to care about having her around. Finally, when Seb up and left without telling her – […]
