Review : Firespell – Chloe Neill

Firespell was intriguing enough to keep me reading, and the ending also made me want to find out what happens next. Firespell was a bit like other YA fantasy series, where the young protagonist is sent away from home, enters a new school and finds out that there is more to the world around her than she first thought. Lily is a likeable character, she’s not drama queen, and she deals with her parents going to Germany for a sabbatical without her, and being sent from New York to Chicago quite well. The dynamics of the students in her new school is similar to that of most other stories taking place in high-school, there are the snobs, the brats, the […]

Review: The Veil – Chloe Neill

Review: The Veil – Chloe Neill

The Veil is filled with magic, friendship, treason, and quite a bit of hurt. In this new world of hers, Neill managed to keep me pretty much at the edge of my seat for the duration. My The Veil review: In The Veil, New Orleans is like a different place on earth, because there has been a war between magic and military, and now, the paranormals are imprisoned in a place called Devil’s Isle. Soon after her father’s death, Claire realized she had some magic, too, and she had to hide it at all costs, lest she’d be imprisoned in Devil’s Isle herself. The story started with a commemoration of the war, where Claire went with her best friends Gunnar […]

Review: Biting Bad – Chloe Neill

Review: Biting Bad – Chloe Neill

Biting Bad is not lacking in humor, nor excitement or even romance, however, I’m still having a little trouble with trust when it comes to Chicagoland… My Biting Bad review: One of the things I really enjoyed in Biting Bad is that Merit and Ethan’s relationship finally seemed a little more balanced, and Ethan was less heavy-handed than usual. I also had fun with the riots investigations, even if the culprit didn’t surprise me in the least. Full of feelings of both love and fear, the story moved along at a nice pace, and the overall plot was well done. I really hope my enjoyment for the Chicagoland series will build back up, but it’s really difficult for me to […]

Review: House Rules (Chicagoland Vampires #7) – Chloe Neill

House Rules picks up soon after the ending of Biting Cold. The pacing is fast and furious, and Merit has to fight practically on all sides in this one. Biting Cold (Chicagoland Vampires #6) – Chloe Neill

Biting Cold (Chicagoland Vampires #6) – Chloe Neill

This review contains spoilers from books 4 and 5 in the series, so if you haven’t read those yet, you should probably stop reading right now… Biting Cold is about redemption. For Mallory, for Ethan, for Merit and for Seth. I had a little trouble getting into the world of Chicagoland again, after having been quite disappointed with the two prior books. I was devastated at the end of book 4, when Ethan died. And I was not happy with the way he was brought back from the dead at the end of book 5. Biting Cold started with Ethan and Merit chasing after the Maleficius, and a fight with Seth on the way to were it was hidden. The […]
