ARC Review: The Bookstore on the Beach – Brenda Novak

ARC Review: The Bookstore on the Beach – Brenda Novak

The Bookstore on the Beach is a rather compelling story, with characters that are attaching, and a quirky beach town as the backdrop to all the drama. The Bookstore on the Beach started out very well, with Autumn going back to her home town for the summer holiday. Seeing her mom, letting her children be free, and possibly stopping her search for her missing husband. Autumn needed to know what had happened to Nick, but she also needed to start living again. After a year and a half of Nick’s disappearing act, Autumn just couldn’t take the uncertainty anymore. As I said, the story is rather compelling, but there is so much going on. Too much for a single novel […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Unforgettable You ~ Brenda Novak

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Unforgettable You ~ Brenda Novak

It’s been awhile since I visited Silver Springs so I was excited for Unforgettable You. Novak has built a cast I truly enjoy. Although I didn’t get to spend as much time with characters I already knew, I was glad to meet Jada and Maddox. Yeah, the other characters we knew and loved in Silver Springs didn’t make that many appearances. And while I, too, enjoyed meeting Jada and Maddox, I think I would have liked it even more if we had more appearances by former main characters. Jada was a character I was immediately drawn to. I know she was in a position to move home but I admired her for doing so. It said a lot about her that […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Before We Were Strangers ~ Brenda Novak

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Before We Were Strangers ~ Brenda Novak

Before We Were Strangers was chilling, riveting, and kept me guessing throughout. However, I had some difficulty connecting with some of the characters and the ending was a bit too tidy for me. This wasn’t my favorite from Novak but it was still a pretty good read. *sighs* I didn’t really enjoy this one – I found some aspects of it to be too similar to her Evelyn Talbot chronicles. And the romance wasn’t all that sweet or hot. Plus, I found the ending to be, as you said, too tidy, as well.   I can’t fathom going through what Sloane has been through in suspecting her father in the disappearance of her mother. Her father was definitely formidable but […]

Review: Face Off – Brenda Novak

Review: Face Off – Brenda Novak

Face Off was a good story, but I have to admit I’m starting to think Evelyn will never ever find any peace. And it took quite a bit of suspension of disbelief to get that she could go through so much and still be sane. I really enjoy Evelyn and her thoughts on what makes a psychopath a dangerous person. However, in Face Off, I just started to feel a bit tired because Evelyn can never catch a break! She never had a moment of peace, between her one-time boyfriend from her youth, and Amarok’s ex who was trying to get to Amarok any way she could. The overall story in Face Off was very exciting, especially because I as […]

Review: Right Where We Belong – Brenda Novak

Review: Right Where We Belong – Brenda Novak

Right Where We Belong brought me right back to Silver Springs, where I followed the complicated romance between Savanna and Gavin. There was quite a bit of suspense surrounding them, and that wasn’t the only thing working against them. Story: Savanna has been through a lot since her husband was arrested for several rapes. When people in the community turned against her, she figured she had to move so she and her children wouldn’t encounter any more people screaming at her for standing by him at the beginning. Right Where We Belong then continues away from Utah, and unfolds mostly in Silver Springs. Characters: Savanna is a strong woman, who will do what she thinks is right, even when the […]

Review: Hello Again – Brenda Novak

Review: Hello Again – Brenda Novak

Hello Again was so eery, I felt the suspense during the whole story, and it just seems impossible to me that Evelyn will make it through the end. There is more than one enemy now, and my goodness, the ending left me speechless and breathless. Story: The suspense and the psychological thriller aspects were even stronger in Hello Again. Evelyn has more than one person she needs to be wary of, and her newest inmate is so smart and vengeful. He’s at least as scary as Justin. Several things happen to bring more heat to Justin’s revenge, and on top of that, there are murders that seem different from his MO, but could still be by him. Amarok and Evelyn’s […]

Review: Until You Loved Me – Brenda Novak

Review: Until You Loved Me – Brenda Novak

Until You Loved Me was a beautiful story, this series just keeps getting better and better! Novak has created two very different characters who had a lot of confidence when it came to their professional lives, and even more insecurities when it came to their personal lives. I kind of fell in love with Ellie when I first met her in Until You Loved Me, because while her professional life was extremely successful, her personal life was kind of in shambles. Thanks to he best friend, though, she wasn’t allowed to stay home to wallow in her misery. Out and about in a new club, she met a very hot stranger, one who was hiding from the world because ‘everybody’ […]

Reveiw: No One But You – Brenda Novak

Reveiw: No One But You – Brenda Novak

No One But You had all the romance, the suspense and the strong characters I’ve come to know and love when I pick up a Novak novel. Jayden and Dawson weren’t very likely to become romantically involved, and that just made their romance better in my opinion! No One But You showed that the one person who may seem respectable on the outside may be far from it, while the one other people think badly on have mostly good qualities and can be both loyal and trustworthy. Dawson had been through more than just a rough patch, accused of killing his adoptive parents, he was finally judged not guilty by a court and the jury, however, his townspeople weren’t so […]

Review: Finding Our Forever – Brenda Novak

Review: Finding Our Forever – Brenda Novak

Finding Our Forever has some complex relationships, a lot of longing, a lot of love, and a little intrigue. It’s all set at a beautiful ranch away from the lights of the big city. The setting in Finding Our Forever is really nice, it’s a school for wayward young men, and because it’s kind of enclosed, it’s really more like a small town than anything else. Some teachers live on campus, as do all the students. The newest teacher, Cora, has more than one reason to want to be there, though. She has finally, after years of searching, found out who her biological mother is. And because her bio mom is the director of this school, she decided to apply for […]

Review: Her Darkest Nightmare – Brenda Novak

Review: Her Darkest Nightmare – Brenda Novak

Her Darkest Nightmare has a lot of tension, the psychological aspect of this thriller is very well done. There were, however, several instances where I had to consciously suspend disbelief in order to follow Evelyn. Her Darkest Nightmare happens about six months after the ending of Hanover House, and the prison / psych ward has opened and is almost at capacity. With one of the doctors out sick, and another one having left because of the long winter in Alaska, Evelyn has a smaller team to deal with, which means there’s more work for all of them. Because Evelyn has brought in a new inmate – without discussing it with her colleagues first – the sense of mistrust was very […]
