Review: Baiting the Boss – Coleen Kwan
3 Stars

For years Grace Owens harbored a secret crush on her boss, Jack Macintyre, the heir to the Macintyre Corporation. But Jack relocates to a remote tropical island after tragedy upends his life, cutting off all contact. Now Grace’s new boss issues an ultimatum: return Jack to the family fold or pack her briefcase and move on.

When she turns up at Jack's bungalow, he can’t deny his attraction to the fiery woman determined to lure him out of his tropical paradise. Little does she know that returning is the last thing he wants—he’s nobody’s boss, and he likes it that way.

If he stays, she'll lose her job. If he goes, she'll lose her heart.

*I received a free ARC of Baiting the Boss from Entangled Publishing via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review*

Baiting the Boss is a quick, sweet and very hot read! Grace is the young woman who works very hard, has specific goals and does what needs to be done to achieve them. Jack has been away from Sydney for three years, ever since his wife died in a car accident. Living on a secluded island, he is not exactly happy to see Grace arrive by boat, with demands from his grand father for him to come home and become CEO of the family company.

The chemistry between Grace and Jack can be felt from the start of Baiting the Boss, but apart from the chemistry, and their red-hot sex, there isn’t that much more to the story. I loved the part that happened on the island, but when they got to Sydney, it was as if they both became so guarded it was difficult to move the story forward from there. I also thought the final resolution was a little bit too easy, on both their parts.

Baiting the Boss is not really about character growth, even if Grace and Jack both showed some growth, and came to term with their pasts. However, their looks, touches and gentle teasing made it a fun read anyway. And you and I both know we don’t really pick up a romance to read about character growth anyway, right?

I did enjoy Baiting the Boss, though, both because of the hotness, and because I thought that the chemistry and hesitation between Jake and Grace were well done. The writing is good, and if you’re looking for something hot to keep you interested for a few hours, Baiting the Boss is for you.

Just then, a figure striding along the path toward them caught Grace’s attention. The man was tall, dark-haired, tanned, and there was something deeply familiar about the way he moved. Her heart skittered, her nerves fizzling like water on a hot skillet. Only one man had ever had that effect on her.

Jack shook his head before moving off, but the flirtatious note note in the girl’s voice hadn’t escaped Grace’s notice. In an island bursting with beauty, Sefina stood out like a siren.

“You keep condoms in your first aid kit?” she couldn’t help asking. He grinned as he ripped the foil packet open. “For emergencies. i think this situation qualifies.”

“No bunny pj’s tonight?” he asked as she approached her side of the bed. “They’re in the wash. How about you? Are you decent?” “Decent enough.” He flashed her a raunchy grin. “Usually I sleep in the nude.” She rolled her eyes. “Of course you do.”

  1. Wait. You only read romance for the romance?!? *gasp* LOL

This is a great review, Lexxie. It does sound like just the thing to keep me busy for a few hours. I love your description of the chemistry between Grace and Jack. Maybe I’ll get to read it one cold, wintry day! 😉

I hope you’ve had some study time, dear. But also some good reading time! 😉 Enjoy your Sunday! *hugs*

    • LOL yeah, strange that, no? I have to say though that if there is character growth, the romance is even more awesome if that part is well done too.

Their chemistry is definitely something to heat you up on a cold winter day 😉

Thanks for stoping by Brandee. *hugs*

    • Thanks Berls. I think sometimes, because it happens that romance books have it all, I expect more than what I get.

Have a great Monday, Berls 🙂
