Silver is up against a lot of difficulties in Impulse. She is dating someone who used to hate mages, she is still trying to rid the world of Nero and his nefarious methods, and she and Justus are still not seeing eye to eye on everything. Impulse is action-packed, but still also filled with romance, and Silver is learning more about what it means to be a mage.

Impulse is a very apt name for the third book in the Mageri series! We get to know more about Silver, her birth, her childhood, and why she is sometimes not doing what her impulse is telling her to do! We also get to know a lot more about Justus and his own brand of impulse control. It was amazing to get more back-story on Justus, it explains so much about the way he treats Silver, and also the way he treats the women he’s with.

There is also a lot of action in Impulse, both with fights and with the budding romantic relationship between Logan and Silver. I sure have a soft spot for Logan! I know I would never be able to have a relationship with a man like him in real life, but I love reading about him and Silver. The reverence with which he treats her is heart-warming. And I love his loyalty and his honesty. Logan is also dealing with his own impulses, he is used to listening to his instincts, and to realize that he might have to act a little differently around Silver than he would with a Chitah woman is eye-opening.

I really loved reading about Silver’s growth. Her relationship with all those close to her changed when she finally dared opening up a little. Sunny was her normal quirky self, and I loved the interactions both between Silver and Sunny, and those between Sunny and Knox. I also loved seeing how Silver would just not give up, ever! When they were in extremely difficult situations, Silver stepped up to the task and saved the day. Good thing that this was noticed too, I actually felt proud for her!

Nothing was really easy for Silver in Impulse, though. She struggled with her feelings for Logan, even if Logan never showed her anything but love and tenderness towards her. And I love reading about alpha-males who would lay their own life down to protect their woman! It was awesome to learn more about Logan as well – both about his past and about how that past has made him the man he is in the present. She also struggled with her place among the Mageri, and with how she wanted to fit in – without compromising her own morals doing so. And things weren’t difficult only for Silver, either. Adam went through some truly horrible things, and I hope he will be able to come to terms with it all and become an even stronger man in future books.

Impulse was filled with sexual tension, excitement, fights, romance and some great humor as well. I love Simon and his stand-offish ways, and Silver really knows how to make sure her point comes across perfectly clear. It was also good to see how Silver also struggled with her own preconceptions, and that she could see that she actually have some. The way she tried to work on those to better herself was very refreshing to read about.

It seems that both growth and impulse are important themes in Impulse, the readers really learned a lot more about several characters, and a little more about some of the others. There is, of course, still a lot to be learned, and I, for one, can’t wait to read Gravity! I was very pleased to participate in the cover reveal for the fourth book in the Mageri series recently. Silver is the kind of heroine I love reading about – she can be bad-ass when she needs to, but still has this vulnerable side that is so endearing. She is beautiful, but doesn’t fully realize the effect she has on others. She is also a great friend, and is lucky enough to have several people considering her to be a friend as well. They will always have each others’ back.

The writing is pretty fast paced in places, as it should be when the action requires it, and in other places it slows down to a lazy heartbeat to show the importance of a romantic moment, or something very strong passing between two characters. As the readers see things through Silver’s eyes, we get to know what she knows, and I was just as surprised as Silver was in some instances.

Of course, no review is complete without a few quotes:

My green eyes were vivid, and paired against the golden amber of Logan’s eyes, we looked like a pair of jewels sparkling in the restaurant.

Courtship to a male Chitah was more than roses and candy – it was proving his worth.

“So I flirt with disaster once or twice. Who doesn’t?” He snorted. “You don’t just flirt with disaster, you have intercourse with it.”

The champagne was delicious and full of tiny giggles.

Something this elegant always seemed excessive, but sitting beside Logan, I felt beautiful.

    • It’s truly excellent, so far, all of the books in the series are solid 5 stars from me! And I just realized earlier this week during the cover reveal for book 4 that the author is making her own covers! How awesome is that?

    • Yes, this series is just excellent in my opinion, Charlotte. It’s well written, with complex characters and a setting that is explained with ease.

🙂 I hope you’ll enjoy it when you get to it.
