Payback is owed.
And Maddie Clayton is going to collect. This time Carlos and Logan have gone too far. People are dead, lives have been changed, and she’s had enough. Plus, she’s got the Devil on her side, so when an enemy turns into a friend with an idea of how to take Carlos down, she’s in.
Tyler Morgan has been fighting back his whole adult life. He’s ready for anything when it comes to payback. But endangering Maddie can’t be part of the deal. Unfortunately for him, once Maddie gets an idea in her head, there’s no stopping her.
Her debt has been paid in blood and she wants revenge.
His fight is still there, but now he’s got more at stake than himself.
The end is coming.
But even if they win against Carlos, they can still lose each other.

Flesh Into Fire brought Maddie back into more danger than Tyler could take – which made things extremely difficult for both of them!

Story:

Flesh Into Fire is the third installment in power-duo Huss McClain’s Original Sin series, and I was sadly not fully satisfied with this story. Some parts felt a bit rushed to me, and the overall story didn’t move forward as much as I would have liked. The character development is rather slow as well. Tyler has evolved quite a bit, but he still needs work. And Maddie is still almost the same as she was in the first book.

I had a bit of trouble pinpointing why I wasn’t as excited about Flesh Into Fire as I was when it came to Sin With Me. Chatting with my dear blogger-wife, I figured it out though. I think it was the sex scenes. It is very rare for me to say this, but here, there were times when the sex didn’t bring anything to the overall story. And I actually found myself skimming some parts. I even rolled my eyes a bit at one point. Because the situation Tyler and Maddie was in should not have made them want to tear each other’s clothes off.

The story did move forward, though, and Flesh Into Fire wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t as good as the first book. I am still excited about Passion Rising which will be out in the beginning of May, and keep my fingers crossed I’ll love it.

Writing style :

Flesh Into Fire is written in dual perspectives with chapters from either Tyler’s or Maddie’s point of view, and in first person, present tense. The pace is rather fast, even when Tyler gets wordy. And the writing is really good – with dialogues that have some incredible one-liners that made me laugh out loud.

Fave Quotes - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Good thing I never considered becoming a priest. For, like, a hundred reasons, but the collar thing is one of them.

I don’t believe in heroes, but if you held a gun to my head and told me that I had to pick someone to claim as my personal hero, it’d have to be Evan Silver. (Actually, if you held a gun to my head and told me to do anything, I’d tell you to go fuck yourself, but privately, inside, I’d be saying Evan Silver was my hero.)

He reaches me with his outstretched hand and I grab his palm, twist his wrist, kick the inside of his thigh, and the next thing I know, he’s flat on his back and I have my knee dangerously close to his fucking balls. Emily gasps, Tyler claps and shouts, “Fuck yeah, baby!” And Ricky stares up at me with a loook that’s half-surprised, half-impressed ans says, “OK, then. And which was that? Aikido? Ju-Jitsu? Wing Chun…?” […] “Pretty sure that was just Maddie Clayton.”

  1. Sorry it didn’t work well for you, Lexxie, I personally think it was better than the second instalment. You know I have a thing for the minor characters, and I also got interested in the plot, BUT not the sex. In fact, I get your issue with it and, if it makes you feel any better, I rolled my eyes at the very same scene! Fingers crossed for a good finale, though 🙂

  2. Sorry this wasnt as good as you were hoping it would be. I have the first book in the series, still havent read it though. Huss has always had some pretty great sex scenes, it sounds like these were there as an add in maybe. I think I like Tyler and Maddie, so I’ll have to try the first book soon. Great review.

    Bummer! And I’m surprised, Huss sex scenes usually hit the mark – timing and otherwise! These books are coming so fast… I’m glad I decided to wait. I’m going to just binge read the whole series in one swoop this summer 🙂 Great review! Hope you’re week is off to a great start Lexxie {{HUGS}}
