First of all, I didn’t realize 30 Days wasn’t a standalone so when I got near the end and things weren’t wrapping up, I was a little disappointed. But then I’m gonna get more of Elle and Colin and that’s probably a good thing. 😉 I’m hooked. The premise is good and I like the characters. There is some unevenness at times but I liked that Larsen kept me guessing. I hope to get the second, and last, book read sooner than later.

The gist of the story is that Elle is hiding, having escaped a very bad situation. She’s holed up in a place where she dreamed of living, seaside, and is trying to figure out what comes next. Elle’s also working at accomplishing a list – kinda like a bucket list – she and her sister devised. She meets Colin, a man with whom she has an immediate connection. As they spend time together and grow closer, her life becomes even more complicated.

The story is told from both past and present, the present being over the course of 30 days. It’s primarily from Elle’s POV (all the past is) with a few glimpses into Colin’s head via his POV.

I liked the story – it has a Sleeping with the Enemy vibe – and have to come to care about Elle and Colin. It did feel like some things were conveyed a bit melodramatically. That doesn’t mean I felt that the delivery detracted from Elle’s experiences because I understand how they would have affected her. It’s that more could have been said to make the conveyance more powerful. The portion where Elle’s building her new life was exciting. I enjoyed her budding relationship with Colin and his friends as well as Jenna. The way Elle’s list brought them all together was a nice touch. And witnessing Elle and Colin’s burgeoning feelings was heartwarming.

I knew when things weren’t tying up that the other shoe was about to drop. It did and it was quite a doozy ending with a cliffhanger. That doesn’t typically bother me and really only did in this instance because I wasn’t prepared not knowing that 30 Days wasn’t standalone. I hope to read Committed soon so I can see how everything wraps up.

  1. OOOHHHH I loved the movie Sleeping With The Enemy. Lol sorry I don’t find a lot of people who remember/really liked that one enough to make a comparison.

This seems like an interesting story and I am glad you’re excited for the next book. I will say though, it is always a bit disappointing when you get close to the end and think “ummm so what’s happening here? Does everyone just suddenly die or what?” Lol or at least that’s what I tend to think when I don’t know the book is not a stand alone.

    Fantastic review. 🙂

    • I loved Sleeping with the Enemy too! 🙂

The story is really interesting and I hope to read #2 soon but I’m not going to lie. I was disappointed to find out this wasn’t standalone. I did keep wondering how things were going to wrap up in 15 pages…everyone dying would have been the only way. LOL Thanks!

ohh.. those cliffhangers are definitely not my favorite. Even sleeping with the enemy vibe can’t entice me to read it now (probably when the second shoe drops i guess)

  3. oh Sleeping with the Enemy was creepy good. But a cliffhanger here is the devil! It sounds really good, so I hope you get to read more soon. It looks like they are both in KU so I could read them. Anne – Books of My Heart
