Laura Plus Books

LGBT Month is hosted by Cayce at Fighting Dreamer and Laura at Laura Plus Books. It runs throughout April and it’s here to celebrate LGBT readers, LGBT authors and of course LGBT books!

Throughout April, Laura and Cayce decided to celebrate LGBT by reading books where at least one of the characters is gay, lesbian, transsexual or bisexual. As there aren’t that many books out there that I know of with LGBT characters, I decided to sign up as well. However, for me, this is supposed to be all positive! So if you don’t think it is, please don’t leave me a comment – just leave, it’s very easy to find the little cross up there in the corner to leave 🙂

This event has no real rules. All you have to do is read and share LGBT+ books. At lease one book or one post! Try to spread the acceptance of LGBT+. You don’t need to have a blog. You can have a YouTube channel, you can review books on Goodreads and/or you can use the hashtag #LGBTApril on Twitter!

Different things we’ll be doing during April are reviews, giveaways, guest posts, discussions, everything! We really hope you can too! There will also be Twitter parties! At the beginning of each week, we’ll post a Linky. There, you can link-up all your different posts. You can read all the things other people are posting too.

Also, there will be a READ-ALONG! It’s not compulsory for you to read it but it’ll be a lot more fun if you do. There are no set rules on how you have to read it, as long as you read it April with us. And… you get to vote on which book you want to read! If it’s too hard for you to vote for 1, you can for for 2 but don’t go crazy and vote for all of them. The list is in the signup post, and the button at the top of this post will take you right to it 🙂

So now, what do you need to do to sign up?

– Link up to your blog/channel/Goodreads/Twitter. Your Name @ Blog/Channel or Goodreads/Twitter
– Then, write a sign up post! Include the description and the banner if you have a blog. If you’re just doing it on Goodreads/Twitter, just spread the message!
– You don’t have to straight away. Feel free to sign up now and talk about it later. 🙂

I think I’ll read Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan, as I already own it.

I have just read and reviewed Because of Her by KE Payne, and I really enjoyed it a lot. My review can be found here. Another LGBT I have recently read is If You Could be Mine by Sara Farizan, here is my review.
I am also participating in a blog-tour, for the second book in a series about a wolf-pack where the pack-master’s son is gay. This second book is called Wolf in Gucci Loafers, and I look forward to reading it. The first book in the series, The Pack or the Panther was really good, and I have reviewed that one, too.
Depending on how much time I’ll have for reading, I may add more books, so please feel free to leave me recommendations!

  1. Thank you for signing up Lexxie! Will Grayson, Will Grayson is on my LGBT tbr too, not sure I’ll get to in April though. My tbr is a bit over-ambitious 🙂 But I’m looking forward to your thoughts on it. And Because of Her has such a cute cover, it really makes you want to pick it up.

    • It’s a great story in Because of Her, Cayce. I truly enjoyed it – because it was straight forward, with really likable characters among the young ones.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Hey Lexxie,
Last April you kindly gave me a lovely review of my urban fantasy, The Reluctant Reaper. I just wanted to let you know that under my other pen name, Storm Grant, I’ve written a bunch of m/m books. ATM, only two are online, but you might like FEW ARE CHOSEN from Riptide Press. In fact, if you thought you might like to read it, I’d be happy to send you the format of your choice.

It’s a humorous, young adult, multi-cultural, GBLT, paranormal, character study with a strong romantic subplot. All in less than 15,000 words! It won a “Bookie” award last year.

Or not. If you want something more realistic and heart-rending, try Cat Grant’s books (no relations except we’re pals). Her stuff is terrific. http://catgrant.com/

    • Oh, that’s awesome, Gina! I would love to read it! My preferred format is kindle (.mobi)

I really enjoyed The Reluctant Reaper! I need to continue that series as well 🙂

Thanks for the recommendations! I’ll check out Cat’s books as well.

    • We can join even if we don’t have time to read any books at all – just talking about LGBT books and share some of the story-love 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, my dear *BIG HGUS*

  3. What a fantastic challenge! I have my reading for April pretty solidly booked, but I’m going to totally stalk your blog to see what you end up reading (already noting the books you mentioned above). I’d really like to read more LGBT books – I honestly can’t think of any I’ve read!

    • I think it’s actually pretty sad that we kind of have to search for books with LGBT characters, Berls. I have read quite a few with side-characters who are LGBT, but quite few with LGBT main characters.

I am not sure if I’ll read a lot of books in April, as I have four papers to hand in, one test and a presentation just in the first two weeks of April. We shall see.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    • I think it’s an awesome challenge, too, Robyn! And I hope I’ll be able to find some new gems to read 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by.
