It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Welcome to It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? This is a meme hosted by Sheila @ Book Journey; and I think it is great to start the week with what I’m reading right this minute, and what I’ll be reading (or planning on reading, anyway) for the rest of the week.

Please visit Sheila’s blog to sign up on her linky, or you can do so below, and just know that every week, a lucky winner is drawn from the bloggers or posters (no need to even have a blog) who comment on at least ten posts in the It’s Monday meme. The winner gets a $5 Amazon gift card. How awesome is that?

Last week, I had a very productive week! I read the following books :

Crossing the Line - (un)Conventional BookviewsCrossing the Line (Pushing the Limits #1.5) by Katie McGarry – awesome novella in this series, the writing is so good, and I really enjoyed myself a lot. My review will be posted later today, and I gave it 5 stars.

Shatter Me - (un)Conventional BookviewsShatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi is a masterpiece in my opinion. The writing and the format is very different, but I loved it! The prose is strange as well, but very fitting to this world where nothing is what it seems. 5 stars.

Destroy Me - (un)Conventional BookviewsDestroy Me (Shatter Me #1.5) by Tahereh Mafi is a novella focusing on the character I loathed in Shatter Me! Expertly done, made me see him as a human after all was said and done. 5 stars!

Unravel Me - (un)Conventional BookviewsUnravel Me (Shatter Me #2) also by Tahereh Mafi – and yes, you can say I became obsessed with this series. Unravel me also got 5 stars – my review will be posted later this week.

Ink - (un)Conventional BookviewsInk (Paper Gods #1) by Amanda Sun is very original, set in Japan and with a mythology and paranormal aspect that was different. 3 Stars, my review will be posted tomorrow.

Right now, I’m reading

Splintered - (un)Conventional BookviewsShatter Me by A. G. Howard, and I’m really enjoying it! I’m almost half through, and this re-telling of Alice in Wonderland that is not really about Alice is enchanting, strange and well written.

Carniepunk - (un)Conventional BookviewsI’m also continuing with Carniepunk, which has some very good short-stories so far. I should finish it soon, because I really need to write a review, but at the same time, I don’t want to read too many novellas or short-stories in a row, because I sometimes become a little frustrated wanting more.

Next week, my plan is to read the following books:

Dead Witch Walking - (un)Conventional BookviewsDead Witch Walking (The Hollows #1) by Kim Harrison has been on my TBR for a long time, and some of my blogger friends have been telling me lately how good it is, so I really want to read it!

To Sin with a Viking - (un)Conventional BookviewsTo Sin with a Viking by Michelle Willingham is an ARC I got a little while back, because I love vikings, and it seemed like a fun book. The main female character seems to be really strong.

Queen of Jastain - (un)Conventional BookviewsA while back, I participated in the cover reveal for Queen of Jastain by Kary Rader, and she was nice enough to send me an ARC afterwards because I thought it looks like the kind of book I would enjoy.

Last week, I posted these posts on the blog:

  1. Yay for your Kim Harrison pick. I just finished the second book in The Hollows series and I can’t wait to crack open number 3 (don’t read my review for The Good, the Bad, and the Undead). I’m reading Tangle of Need by Nalini Singh. I stalled on it last time because it veers off in a direction my mind fought too much.

    Happy reading, Lexxie!

    • LOL Robyn, you and Jaclyn have both mentioned the Hollows series lately, and you got me really, really curious about it. I’ll hold off on your review for now.

Tangle of Need is not my favorite Psy-Changeling book, but I still enjoyed it. I hope you’ll enjoy it this time around, too.

Thanks for stopping by Robyn, have a wonderful week, with great reads.

    • Yeah, when I have time to just sit and read, it goes fairly quickly. Two of my books last week were novellas, though 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by Naomi.

    • I think some people might have trouble with the prose in Shatter Me, because it’s very different and unconventional. I really enjoyed it, though, and thought the format was really pertinent to the story.

Thanks for stopping by Andrea 🙂 Have a great week.

  2. Jessica@a GREAT read

OOh nice! I hope you enjoy Dead Witch Walking! Loooove Kim’s series! She was one of my first Urban Fantasy authors when I decided to read adult books!

    Here’s my Monday Wrapup

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • I hope I’ll enjoy it, too, Jessica. I’ve had it on my TBR for along time. UF was one of my first adult genres, too 🙂

Thanks for stopping by. Happy reading.

    • I think some books are just not for all of us. I hope I’ll enyoy the Hollows 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by!

    • I loved Shatter Me, Ciska. I hope you’ll like it when you decide to check it out.

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

    • Shatter Me is not the Alice in Wonderland re-telling, that’s Splintered. Shatter Me is more dystopian, and the writing is very different from other novels. Splintered is really good so far! I enjoy it 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, Andi 🙂

      • You’re right! My bad. As I view on my computer, the Shatter Me blurb is by the Splintered cover. I was thinking of Splintered and typing Shatter Me. It’s been one of those head-spinny brain-fried days all around. Anywhoosie, I’m definitely looking forward to Splintered when I get ’round to it.

    • Horror and non-fiction in the same books sounds like it could totally creep me out! I think I’ll wait for your review on that one, Tanya.

Both Shatter Me and Pushing the Limits are awesome – quite different, but very well done.

Thanks for stopping by, Tanya 🙂

    • Splintered is really good so far. And it’s kind of a mix between a retelling and a different story in one.

I’m looking forward to Dead Witch Walking… it’s yours and Jaclyn’s fault I’m reading it now 😉

Thanks for stopping by – have a great week Brandee.

  3. Today I got a surprise in my mailbox..it was a paperback copy of Carniepunk!! So I might try a few short stories from that in between my other reads. 🙂

I have Dead Witch Walking on my TBR pile too and I have had it there for a long time. So can’t wait to see what you think then I might have to dust if off and give it a try! 🙂

I just finished One Night With a Rake and it was pretty good. Started Witch Fire by Laura Powell (sequel to Burn Mark). I just started it so I have no opinion but I liked the first one so I hope it’s good..

I need more time in the day to read..I wish I was as fast at reading as you are!!!!! 🙂

    Happy Reading!

    • So cool that you got Carniepunk in the mail, Stormi!! The stories I have read so far are pretty cool, and one made me add a new series to my TBR.

LOL hopefully Dead Witch Walking will be good enough that you’ll want to dust it off.

One Night with a Rake sounds familiar…

Have a great week Stormi, thanks for stopping by 🙂

  4. I’ve been wanting to read Splintered, initially the cover caught my eye, and then some great reviews kept me keen. I’ve only read the 1st book in the Hollow series, I liked it but wasn’t blown away so I didn’t continue … hope it lives up to your expectations.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Have a another great week and happy, happy reading 🙂

    • I know, the cover of Splintered is truly beautiful! And so far, I really like the story.
We’ll see what I think of the Hollows series.
Thanks for stopping by, and happy reading to you as well!
