FF #89 – Life Before Blogging?
YAY it’s Friday! Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature and Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! What sets this Hop apart from others, is that our hosts feature two blogs. Every week they will each showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow both their featured as well as our lovely hosts as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your Feature and follow post. Before blogging (dark times people!) how would you find out about new books or did you?
Oh my, yeah, dark times indeed! For a couple of years before I started blogging, I found Goodreads, and my goodness, I added books to my TBR shelves left and right, discovered new authors, new genres, and realized I was a true PNR and Fantasy /UF fan at heart. Before Goodreads, though, it was Amazon who told me about new books. Every time I bought a book by an author or in a genre, I would get those pesky recommendations, and I was actually quite happy about that.
It’s a lot easier with blogs, though, and my TBR pile grows and grows, which I actually love. What about you? Did you find about new books before you started blogging, or was it actually the dark ages for you?

Yeah if I wasn’t strolling the shelves I was getting my books based on Amazon recommends. It was helpful in a lot of ways because I did discover a lot of books that way! Maria V. Snyder especially, so definitely grateful for them for that!

Yeah, English books came out so much later here, and it’s pretty expensive to buy books here as well. So amz it was for me, and still is for most of my buys 🙂
I didn’t learn about GoodReads until after I started blogging, but I did work in a bookstore previously, so I was reading a lot of the best sellers so that it was easier for me to make recommendations to customers. Otherwise, I found novels by browsing the shelves when the store was dead; I think they made more money of me than what they paid out in salary. LOL Happy Friday girlie!
LOL, I could never work in a bookstore, I would always end up owing my boss more money than she owed me that way 😀 Although it must have been great to be able to share reading tips to customers.

Goodreads literally brought so many books into my life, it’s ridiculous! My TBR pile is becoming dangerously big but I am loving it 😉 I tended to get most of my books from bookstores though, because they are magical places! Thanks for sharing 🙂 I hope you have a great weekend!

I used to go to the library to get recommendations and I’d go to the bookstore and pick up piles of books to look through while drinking coffee. I found LibraryThing and Goodreads before I started blogging as well, but until then, it was mostly the library for me. New Networked Blogs follower and bloglovin’ follower.

Amazon had a big influence on me as well, and it made is so much easier to get the book I wanted to read. And Goodreads! When I first joined, I used to use the recommendations section all the time, and I found loads of books I really liked. Have a great weekend, Lexxie!
Oh yes, the Goodreads recommendations were thoroughly used by me as well in the beginning, but now, I count on friends’ reviews and ratings instead.

Some libraries have great selections, I wish mine did… But now, I own all the books I’ve read, so that’s really nice as well.

High five, Lexxie! Amazon was also my go-to place whenever I am looking for a book to read. If I have enough time, I always visit our local bookstores to conduct window shopping and check their bestseller lists. I would then write the titles (as long as they catch my interest) on my mobile phone. As soon I already have 3-5 books on my list, that’s the time that I buy the books.
I only discovered Goodreads on 2012 and it even took me some time to fully utilize it. Why? Because I assumed that the Amazon reviews are more legit compared to the reviews written on Goodreads. Shame on me! XD
Eh, well, it’s not so easy to change our habits when it comes to the places we search for new books to read, so I can’t blame you for not fully using GR at first.

I remember that before Goodreads, it was the library that recommended me books, haha! But I was really young (14 years old) so yeah. I only started buying books from Amazon this year so not that one ahah.
Before blogging I had such a hard time finding new books to read, I remember when I read Twillight and just kept following the vampire trend with House of Night and Vampire Academy and some adult vampire series of which I forgot the name as bol.com (the dutch site where I then ordered my books) recommended those or actually sold those. Or I just picked up the other series by an author I liked and then read everythign by that author in a row. I was constantly searching for new exciting books. Goodreads made that so much easier, I am so happy I found goodreads and then blogging.
Prior to blogging, I was not a reader. I had no direction and it was too difficult to decide what to read, so I dodged it entirely. Blogging and reading have made my life better, and I am a stronger, improved person due to it.
I was on GR for a couple of years before I started blogging. Before GR I did not really read a lot so I did not need it.

*hahaha* Guess what, Lexxie?!? I found books in the EXACT same ways as you pre-blogging. 🙂 I still have thousands of books on my tbr that have been there since the beginning. Even on Amazon. Thank goodness for blogging, huh? Now I’ve added thousands more! 😉
