Review: These Broken Stars (Starbound #1) – Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Review: These Broken Stars (Starbound #1) – Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

*I received a free ARC of These Broken Stars from Disney Hyperion via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* These Broken Stars is a beautifully written young adult novel set in a more or less distant future, when space travel is quite common, and several planets are colonized, but there is still war and those who hold power want to hold on to that. Many things seem very different from the way we live now, but at the core, human beings are still the same, with their hopes and dreams. They still love and hate, fear and show courage. The differences are in the science and the way people can travel. Tarver is on the Icarus only because he […]

Review: Irresistible Magic (Crescent City Fae #2) – Deanna Chase

Review: Irresistible Magic (Crescent City Fae #2) – Deanna Chase

*I received a free ARC of Irresistible Magic from Bayou Moon Publishing via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* Irresistible Magic takes up just where Influential Magic ended. Wil still has a lot on her plate, and hooking up with Tal is her main concern, even if there is a lot of other things happening as well. Wil is stalked by an unknown human, and almost kidnapped while she’s shopping for a dress for her hot date. Phoebe is shopping with her, so luckily, they are able to neutralize the would-be-kidnapper, but Wil realizes that her date will not go as planned. Especially because her ex, David, has also showed up to let her know his vampire-father has summoned […]

Review: Backward Glass – David Lomax

Review: Backward Glass – David Lomax

*I received a free ARC of Backward Glass from Flux via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* Backward Glass is a brilliant YA time travel novel, and it really made my day! The main character, Kenny, is pretty careful, but his travels to the past (and sometimes to the future) take him on such a wild adventure I was almost out of breath at times. I love reading about time travel, and I thought it was very well done in Backward Glass. Like, you can’t change what has happened, but you can still be the captain of your own life – that is very important to me on both counts. The characters in Backward Glass are all very well […]

Review: Manic (Rook and Ronin #2) – J.A. Huss

Review: Manic (Rook and Ronin #2) – J.A. Huss

Manic continues shortly after the end of Tragic, and I continue to love Rook and Ronin! The writing is still awesome, and I can’t get enough of their story, their journey and the way the both grow as characters, even if they do have some slip-ups when it comes to being a relationship still. They both need to get used to sharing their feelings, and I was actually a little surprised that Rook seemed better at this than Ronin. Rook is starting her photo shoot – and her reality TV show for Spencer and the body paint for his custom made motorcycles. Unfortunately, Rook had not learned her lesson about reading the whole contract and maybe sleep on it before […]

Blogtour, Review: Seven Years (Seven #1) – Dannika Dark

Blogtour, Review: Seven Years (Seven #1) – Dannika Dark

*I received a free ARC of Seven Years from Enchantress of Books Blogtours in exchange of an honest review* Welcome to my stop on the Seven Years blogtour! I was so excited when I heard that Ms. Dark had a new series she had started to write, I wanted to read it straight away! And Seven  is truly off to a great start. It’s a paranormal romance but the main character doesn’t even know she’s a shapeshifter when the story starts. How is that for a shock, eh? Lexi is a pretty normal twenty-seven year old woman who works in a candy-shop. She’s not exactly happy with where she is in her life, but she’s not completely unhappy either. Still […]

Review: Playing Dirty (Stargazer #2) – Jennifer Echols

Review: Playing Dirty (Stargazer #2) – Jennifer Echols

*I received a free ARC of Playing Dirty from Pocket Books via Edelweiss in exchange of an honest review* Playing Dirty is a truly fun book to read! I couldn’t put it down and stayed up until 3 am so I could learn everything about Sarah, Quintin and the others. Intricate relationships, country stars who aren’t exactly the way the portray themselves to the public. The characters are fun and realistic, the storyline is captivating, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself all the way. I thought the band members were very clever in Playing Dirty, because that’s exactly what they are doing! And Sarah is playing dirty as well. Everybody wants to look out for themselves in the beginning, and it […]

Review: Gone Wild – Ever Cormick

Review: Gone Wild – Ever Cormick

*I received a free ARC of Gone Wild from Barefoot Publishing via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* Gone Wild has a lot more to do with living with nature than it has to do with a girl who kind of acts more wild than usual – despite the cover that shows a lot of skin and wet white clothes… The story is not bad, but I didn’t really get completely drawn into it, either. I can’t really put my finger on why, though, because even if Ina and Adam were both good characters they didn’t make me need to continue reading. Ina goes to a secluded mountain cottage to find herself and figure out what to do with […]

Review: Tragic (Rook and Ronin #1) – J. A. Huss

Review: Tragic (Rook and Ronin #1) – J. A. Huss

Tragic is a gritty, real story about a girl who is running from an abusive relationship and ends up doing erotic photo shoots to make ends meet. When she meets Claire, Antoine and Ronin, Rook’s life does take a turn that seems to be better now she will have a roof over her head, earn money and feel safe. Only things aren’t as easy as they seem, and she might just be playing with fire because of the way she feels in these photo shoots. Rook is a fragile and quite innocent girl who has had a very hard life, so she feels like she deserves to catch a break, all the while waiting for the other shoe to fall. […]

Review: Introductions (The Academy #1) – C. L Stone

Review: Introductions (The Academy #1) – C. L Stone

*I received a free ARC of Introductions from Arcato Publishing via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* Introductions is really an introduction to this world and the characters that are a part of it. Sang is a young girl who has never had any friends before, but in her new neighborhood, she finds herself with not only one, but seven new friends. Her new friends are all boys, and she knows she has to keep her mother in the dark, if no there will be harsh consequences to pay for Sang. She also has nightmares every night, and they are pretty weird. In the beginning of Introductions, each chapter introduces both Sang and the reader to one of the […]

Sidekick Showcase #27 – One of a Kind

Sidekick Showcase #27 – One of a Kind

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC’s Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn’t have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, and so will Jaclyn, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on Jaclyn’s page. Just do the following: • Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to […]
