Review ~ At Any Price ~ Brenna Aubrey #RAREParis

At Any Price took on a trope that’s not a favorite of mine – a girl selling her virginity – but put an interesting spin on it. Then BAubrey created a cast of characters I enjoyed and invested in as well as delivered a story with a romance that was entertaining. Mia is a student, hoping to go to medical school, but needing some extra funding. To make ends meet, she works at a hospital but she’s also a blogger. She reviews games – one game in particular – on her blog and makes money from ads. So in her spare time, she’s a gamer. I liked Mia although she frustrated me at times. She’s a girl who lives by […]

Safe & Sexy #51 ~ Tattered

Safe & Sexy #51 ~ Tattered

Safe and Sexy Thinking of my romances and safe sex at the same time started when Lexxie wrote her discussion post with the same name a long time ago! Not too long after, the idea of sharing quotes about that ensured that the feature Safe and Sexy was born. It’s where I will share a quote from a story I have read, and where there is a lot of hotness and sexiness, but where they still take the time to be safe! It’s important to me to read books that make me dream, but I also want them to be somewhat realistic. And to me, characters seem realistic when they take care of themselves and their partner(s)! Safe sex is […]

Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts #173 ~ Pretty Thing

Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts Welcome to Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts, an original weekly meme hosted here at (un)Conventional Bookworms. So many of the books we read have food or drinks in them, some we’d love to try, and others we’d never ever want to taste… and we thought it could be interesting and fun to share some food and / or drink quotes…  If you want to participate, you can grab our logo if you’d like, or you can make your own, but please link back to us in your own post. The idea of Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Tattered ~ Devney Perry

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Tattered ~ Devney Perry

Tattered was a book I chose for Lex and I to read because Devney Perry was attending RAREParis. It’s a book I’m not sure I can adequately do justice to in a review so I’m thankful we’re chatting about it. 😉 I agree! So nice to discover this amazing author – and I’m so happy we co-read, too!   You know I’m a sucker for second chance romances, wifey and the second chance Thea and Logan get is a whopper! 😉 I loved everything about the initial meeting between them to have those set of rules ended up not working for them. For several reasons. But timing wasn’t on their side. Until Logan walks into Thea’s bar in Montana! How […]

Up Close & (un)Conventional Bookish Babble #2

Up Close and (un)Conventional Bookish Babble Welcome to another Up Close and (un)Conventional Bookish Babble. This is where we discuss whatever we feel like. It can be something about books or the bookish community, or it can be about something else entirely! I was recently thinking about how I got into blogging. It actually started when I discovered the blogs of my favorite authors. I religiously followed the blogs of authors like Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Rachel Vincent, and Maggie Stiefvater. (Can you tell what genre I read at that time?!?) And then I read a book that was life-altering for me… The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. That book is the reason I turned my passion for books and […]

Up Close & (un)Conventional Bookish Babble ~ #1

Up Close and (un)Conventional Bookish Babble Welcome to our first Up Close and (un)Conventional Bookish Babble. As we each had done similar discussion posts, we merged the names and, voila! This is where we discuss whatever we feel like. It can be something about books or the bookish community, or it can be about something else entirely!   Hey y’all! This post was sparked when I had a dilemma last week. I had finished a book and needed to choose my next read. Sound familiar so far? 😉 So I looked at my list of ARCs and nothing really tripped my trigger. (I am nothing if not a mood reader 😛 ) Then I looked at my list of authors […]

Review ~ Forever Right Now ~ Emma Scott #RAREParis

Review ~ Forever Right Now ~ Emma Scott #RAREParis

Forever Right Now was an emotionally gripping story that took on several challenging topics. And EScott handled it all with aplomb. This was my first read from EScott and it certainly won’t be that last as I was impressed with her story writing! Darlene has come to San Francisco for a fresh start. Having hit rock bottom – and serving time for it – she is desperate for that proverbial clean slate. She wants to prove to herself, and her family and friends, that she’s got it together now. She needs to focus on herself but she can’t seem to help being drawn to her new neighbor and his little girl. And honestly, showing kindness is something that fills her […]

(un)Conventional Bookworms’ Book Club

(un)Conventional Bookworms’ Book Club

Late last year, Lexxie and I discussed hosting a Read-Along/Book Club here on the blog. We thought it was a great way to get us all reading and discussing something TOGETHER. Here are our thoughts and we’d LOVE some feedback from you. So make sure to leave comments with your thoughts on our ideas, as well as any thoughts/ideas you may have, so we can make this (un)Conventional-ly awesome! We’ll post a poll mid-month, both here on the blog and on our Facebook page, to help us choose the book we’ll be reading the following month. We’ll start reading the winning book on the 1st of each month. We’ll do a “book club” meeting/discussion on the last weekend of the […]

Audio Review ~ Beauty Like the Night ~ Joanna Bourne

Audio Review ~ Beauty Like the Night ~ Joanna Bourne

Beauty Like the Night was just what I was needing. This is my second listen in Bourne’s Spymasters series – which I’ve read out of order – and the story as well as the narration were both fabulous! One of my favorite things in historical romance is an unconventional heroine. Severine is the epitome of unconventional. An orphan of the French Revolution, she was adopted by the head of British intelligence. If I remember correctly, she’d spied during the revolution – at a single-digit age – and continued honing those skills no matter her Papa’s objections. Severine is smart, independent, strong-willed, outspoken, and tenacious. All things I greatly admire. 🙂 With no war being fought, Severine currently works as a […]
