Welcome to my 2nd Armchair BEA 2014 post! Today, we are discussing two topics as well, and both of them are pretty neat ๐
Author Interaction
Author interactions are always really exciting to me, both if I get a tweet and even more so if I am able to meet an author for real. Living in Europe, it frankly doesn’t happen very often that I meet authors for real, but I have had the chance to meet Diana Gabaldon, she was at the Brooklyn Bookfair in September 2011. I am pretty sure I have a picture of me with her somewhere, but I am not able to put my hands on it right now. I got her to sign one of the Outlander books for me, too, and I was pretty excited to be able to speak ot her at all. At the same book fest, I also met Gayle Forman, but I hadn’t read any of her books yet, and had no idea who she was. One of my friends, did, though, and she was fangirling enough for both of us ๐ I think we’re really lucky to be able to meet or chat online with authors we enjoy, and I am sure all our blogger friends who are in NYC participating in the BEA right now are having a lot of fun. But so are we, thanks to Armchair BEA, right?
More than Just Words
I enjoy both graphic novels and audiobooks a lot. I have just recently started listening to audiobooks, and when the narrator(s) is (are) good, it brings the story to a whole new level! I especially loved Colleen Hoover’s Slammed series! The narrator was awesome, and the poetry was brought to life beautifully. I also loved Maybe Someday in audiobook, and I think that’s partly because there was one male and one female narrator. And they were both great.
I haven’t read a lot of graphic novels, but the ones I have gotten my hands on have been good. Outlander comes to mind, I really enjoyed it, because it showed the story a little differently than the book did, and the drawings were very well done.
What about you? Do you have some fun author interactions to share with your fellow Armchair BEA bloggers? Or some recommendations for audiobooks or graphic novels? Thanks for stopping by. Please leave a link to your post so I can come visit you back ๐ Have a great day, have fun with Armchair BEA, and happy reading.
I’ve met Marissa Meyer and Claire Legrand, and they were both so sweet!
You are going to meet many more this week, though, Lyn ๐ I hope you’ll have lots of fun, please take pictures!
I see you’re a big Outlander fan! I think it’s great then that you got to meet the author.
I’m really picky with audiobooks but I’m glad that you enjoyed the Colleen Hoover ones. I’ve been wanting to read Maybe Someday and I think I’ll be going to find the audiobook for it!
Oh, you should definitely get the audiobook for Maybe Someday, Kate. I gave four stars to the actual book, but five to the audiobook…
Thanks for stopping by ๐
I live in the UK (previously Dublin, Ireland), and do quite well in meeting authors, both the big names and the not so big. Helps that I live in a big city with two of the big chain stores that can host people doing their tours. Dublin had more of the big names to be fair, but they only signed in one of the stores……
Yeah, I wish more authors would come to Geneva, Switzerland ๐ At least Twitter exists, and some authors are a lot of fun to interact with.
Thanks for stopping by, nordie.
Well Neil Gaiman is currently doing Scandinavia (Norway I think, but could be wrong), so they do come to Northern Europe! Or perhaps it’s time to get the local Swiss (German/French/Austrian) authors to do their part!
Glad to meet you, and so glad you stumbled on audiobooks and love them! I think they are wonderful too!

The only authors I have met have been the ones I interact with online. I’ve been writing for six years and have met many authors. I would love to meet Margaret George someday. Her books have inspired my own writing style.
I am considering trying out audiobooks, they do look interesting! Hardly any authors come to the UK! Boo!! I think more overseas authors should come over to Europe and lot more!
Lexxie! That’s so exciting that you got to meet Gayle Forman! If I Stay is one of those books that I recommend to EVERYONE. And I completely agree about graphic novels putting a slightly different and appreciated spin on the books we love ๐
My More Than Words were audiobook recommendations as well. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve had some *squee* moments with authors. I met so many last year at RT…and then last November, I went to an author signing with Cora Carmack, Lisa Desrochers, Sophie Jordan, and Jennifer L. Armentrout…AND both Cora and Jennifer recognized me from RT. That was pretty exciting for me. *ha* I’m going to a few author events later this year (actually, one next month) and I’ll be sure to share my fangirl moments. ๐
I haven’t read any graphic novels of books I’ve read – but I feel they’re just not my thing. Of course, I should give them a chance before I judge, huh? And you know I haven’t done any fiction audio but I’m thinking of listening to Slammed over the summer. When I did my Sidekick post last week, it got me itching to re-read Slammed. ๐
Hope your Tuesday has gone well! *big hugs*
I haven’t really given audio books a fair chance yet, but I have heard good things about Maybe, Someday. So I might have to give it a try.
Hope you get a chance to read Gayle Forman’s books. So. Good. I picked them up at a conference I was at and read the first one in one sitting. At the same conference, Holly Black was speaking. I am a huge fan, so also got some of her books signed for my library and for myself. And…while walking down the hall, backward, talking to a friend I bumped into someone-it was Holly Black and I just about knocked the coffee all over her. She was gracious in the face of my fangirl, sorry sorry moment, lol!
It is exciting that you were able to meet Diana Gabaldon. I haven’t read her, but I have seen amazing reviews for her books and will be reading one of her books in the future.
I have just recently started reading audio-books! I will definitely take these recommendations and look into them! Thanks!

I’m not the biggest fangirl and as I live in the boondocks, there aren’t a lot of authors that come out here LOL.
Audiobooks: I listen to some but the non-fiction kind.
Graphic Novels: I guess I’ve outgrown them.
Print books are still my preferred format, I manage my reading time better. The lack of glare helps I think.
I’ve heard that the woman that narrates The Hollows to audio book is fantastic. So glad you are loving them. I have a hard time getting into audio books, but I have only tried a couple of them. I think they would be a neat experience for a book that I’ve already read once though. I hope you’re doing well ๐ Jaclyn @ JC’s Book Haven.
