Once, I would never have imagined myself here. But I’m settled now. In a place I love, in a home I renovated, spending time with new friends I adore, and working a job that fulfills me. I am reconciling the past and laying the groundwork for the future.
Then Garrett Frost moves in next door.
He’s obstinate and too bold, a raging force of nature that disrupts the careful order of my life. I recognize the ghosts that haunt him, the torment driving him. Garrett would be risky in any form, but wounded, he’s far more dangerous. I fear I’m too fragile for the storm raging inside him, too delicate to withstand the pain that buffets him. But he’s too determined…and too tempting.
And sometimes hope soars above even the iciest desolation.
I was thrilled to see SDay was releasing something new and Butterfly in Frost didn’t disappoint. It was riveting and emotional and surprising as well. SDay demonstrated her writing prowess, solidifying her spot as one of my favorite authors.
When we meet Teagan we can see she’s suffering but we’re not privy to all the details. She’s made a fresh start in Seattle, has new friends and new routines. However, when she meets Garrett, he turns her newly ordered world on its head and it seems he’s exactly what Teagan needed.
Garrett is also struggling emotionally…and professionally. Meeting Teagan injects the hope and passion his life seemed to be lacking. As we witness Garrett and Teagan get acquainted and see their relationship blossom, we learn about his past…what caused his broken pieces. But Teagan is still closed off. However, it was awe-inspiring to see these two help mend each other, want to be better for the other, work at getting better and being there for each other.
SDay surrounds our couple with good friends, even one we know from a previous series. She also brings to life the Seattle area with vivid descriptions of its sights and sounds. While only a novella, with Butterfly in Frost SDay delivers an emotionally charged and compelling story. I was wholly satisfied and I’m eager for more from her.

Glad you enjoyed this one! I always meant to read Day’s Crossfire series but never got around to it. I like it when characters help each other through something. Not in a “love solves all” way but in a realistic way that shows them supporting each other.

Day did such a good job with this one, Tanya. It was so interesting and a really moving story.
On a side note…I first read Day’s A Touch of Crimson (Renegade Angels series). Then I read Bared to You (Crossfire). In the foreword of BtY, she thanked her characters from Seven Years to Sin – so I had to read that one. Afterwards, I decided I’d read anything from Day because she does UF, Contemp Rom, and HR SO WELL! LOL
Glad you enjoyed this one so much – I think novellas are often tricky as the ending are often rushed, or aspects not fully covers. But when they are well written, they are really satisfying.
I agree about novellas. I’ve been left unsatisfied many times. But not with this one. 🙂
Good to know, Brandee:)
Oooh, it’s been YEARS since I read anything by Day! I’d definitely be up for reading this one, especially seeing as it’s on KU!
I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did, Nicci! 🙂
