15 Day Book Blogger Challenge – Day 2

This great book blogger challenge is hosted by April @Good Books and Good Wine , and I really have to thank April for this excellent idea. There’s a link-up at April’s blog if you want to participate as well πŸ™‚ I found about this challenge late, so my day 1 and day 2 challenge posts are both posted today… that way I’m all caught up with the other bloggers who are participating, and it’s easier to have fun!

For day two we are discussing our bed-time reading ritual. I’m a little sorry to say I don’t really have one. When the kids go to bed and my husband is watching some kind of sports program on TV, I curl up on the couch with whatever book it is I’m reading at the moment, and I stay engrossed in my story until my husband turns of the TV and starts turning off the lights.Β  Most of the time, I’ll put my book down then, and come upstairs to prepare for sleep as well. But it does happen that what I’m reading is just so good I feel like I might not need sleep that night. So I wave him off and continue reading about superheroes, vampires, rakes or whatever has stricken my fancy that day.

I don’t really like to read in bed, because my couch is so comfortable and I can both sit, slouch and lie down while reading there. Do you read in bed? Do you have a special ritual? Do you avoid certain genres to make sure you will sleep well?

Thanks for stopping by – remember to link up so others can find your Book Blogger Challenge post as well πŸ™‚

  1. This sounds like fun… I may have to join in! πŸ™‚

I don’t have much of a bedtime reading ritual, either. In fact, we are very similar in what we do. The kids get put down for the night and while my husband watches sports I read. When he’s ready to go to bed, usually I follow, leaving my book for the next day. πŸ™‚

    • You should join, Brandy! It’s a great way to get to know other bloggers better, it’s fun and it doesn’t take a very long time to write up the post.

      Thanks for stopping by πŸ™‚

  2. How fun! I do read in bed and here’s my ritual. I get home from work. Love on my pups for a bit and get them fed, talk to husband if he’s home and get an update on his day, then it’s off to change into pajamas, get snuggled in and read for the next 2-4 hours (sometimes longer if the book is really good).

I’ve also been know to read on the couch on weekends but the computer has kind of taken that over.

And definitely read in the car to and from as long as my husband is there to drive πŸ™‚

    • LOL I’m glad your husband is the driver when you read in the car! And I sometimes read a lot longer in the evening, too, it has happened that I suddenly heard the alarm-clocks and that’s how I realized it was the morning…

Thanks for stopping by Traci πŸ™‚

    • LOL, it’s about the only thing I do have enough energy to do at the end of the day πŸ™‚

      Thanks for stopping by Pam.

    • πŸ™‚ I guess in some ways my own ritual depends on what everybody else is doing at home too, but I do tend to read quite a bit when they’re all off to bed already.

    • Right now, I’d probably just stay on the couch all night long! It’s so hot here, and since our bedroom is upstairs, it’s hotter there than in the living-room.

Thanks for stopping by Chiara πŸ™‚

  3. Oh hello. My name is Brandee and I’m a book addict too! πŸ˜‰ I also read while my husband watches television in the evenings. And I ABSOLUTELY read in bed. I probably shouldn’t. But sometimes I get into bed and I’m just not ready for sleep. So I read. And yes, sometimes I stay up WAY too late because I become so engrossed in the story. A hazard of reading in bed. πŸ™‚

    • But sometimes, the stories are just the kind that can’t be put down for the night – because what about that thing that might happen next?

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your fun book-addiction stories, Brandee πŸ™‚

  4. Doesn’t your husband get jealous that you spend the night reading about handsome, dashing men? Hehe. I once saw my dad *try* to read Twilight because he saw my mom quite engrossed in it. And I saw them watching Breaking Dawn part 2 together *gasp*.

    • LOL actually, I’m not even sure he realizes how many tall, muscular, extremely handsome and hunky men I have secret affairs with thanks to the books I read πŸ˜€

LOL yeah, I can understand why your dad would give it a try, and it’s quite cool that they watched Breaking Dawn together.

  5. For some reason, it wont let me reply to your comment above!
Australia is weird about its climate. In some places it can be seriously freezing, but where I live, it rarely gets below about 9 degrees celsius. Same goes for Summer. Some places are boiling hot, but where I live, it isn’t too bad.
What are your Winters like? Do you get snow!? πŸ˜€

Chiara @ Books For A Delicate Eternity recently posted: WWW Wednesday! (July 10)
    • Yeah, sorry about that, I have set it for three or four replies, because the space gets more narrow with each response and in the end it’s impossible to read.
Sounds nice that your climate isn’t too extreme either way.

Yes, we get snow in the winter, usually only for a little over a week, but this last winter, it lasted for over a month! And in summer, we easily get 30-34 Β°C and because there is a lake closeby, and the Alps all around, it feels like living inside a pressure cooker πŸ˜€

      • That’s okay! I know that some blogs do that, and it can be annoying, haha.

Yes, it’s a nice climate, although SO erratic all the time!

Oh my gosh! I have never even seen the snow, so I must say that I am a little jealous. Nice and humid in Summer where you are, then! I live about 20 minutes away from the ocean, so thankfully our Summers aren’t too dry!

  6. So you would love to visit here to see snow, and my dream destination is Australia πŸ™‚ Maybe one day πŸ˜‰

It gets very humid here, but it’s better than too dry, and I love that we can spend our days (and nights) outside so much.

      • I’m not much of a camper myself – I really need an actual bed to sleep well. But we do go hiking, skiing, swimming in lakes, skating etc. Then, we have a cabin where we can sleep in a real bed after a busy day πŸ™‚

If we go to Australia, I think we would probably rent a mobile home to we can have a base but travel around to see different places πŸ™‚

        • I have never gone camping, and I don’t really want to, haha! I don’t think I am cut out for it…. But a cabin would be so nice πŸ˜€
I haven’t actually travelled around here much, shamefully. I’ve been to three of our major cities (but there’s only about 7, haha). But I think a mobile home would be a great thing to use, because there is a lot to see! πŸ™‚

  7. I think that’s the way it is in the country where we live. When I first moved to Switzerland, I went lots of places (I thought I was only going to stay for one year) but lately, we tend to go back to places we’ve already been to and enjoyed.

A cabin is nice, but I wouldn’t want to own one – it’s nice to be able to go different places if we feel like it.
